The Cornish Rex breed began as a happy accident of nature. A genetic mutation in a liter of pups born in 1950 in Cornwall, United Kingdom has led to the kittens that had very fine and curly hair, not the typical thick coat like most breeds of cats. The same curly whiskers! Breeders have been affected by this and decided to raise this by selective inbreeding and crossbreeding. Many other breeds of cats were used during this period, so that the "mantle", one Cornish Rex comes in many colors and designs.
