How old is your dog really? Chances are you know that dogs age in years, or at least have an approximation of their age, but do you really have an idea of how old it is, chronologically speaking?

I'm sure you've heard of the old "seven years the theory. "You know, the way of life where every year a dog or cat is equivalent of 7 of ours. An example of this thinking is that a dog old is 1 year old and the development of an equality of 7-old year. Now, how many children 7 years know they are sexually mature – and able to reproduce? A cat or dog is much more likely to have a litter when a year or less, or at the other extreme, ten years or more, which is a human being under the age of seven years or over the age of seventy!

This system was simple – too simple. Many people today may still use these calculations when coming to an idea of their pets chronological age. However, because of examples like the above one can see why this simplest of systems not acceptable today.

In the 1950s, a French veterinarian, M. LeBeau, formulated another system to solve this problem. In the system by LeBeau, a dog / cat of 1 year of age became the equivalent of a year 15 seniors – because of the onset of puberty in each species. The second year of a dog / cats life became the equivalent of a person over 24 years – something to someone / who has reached full maturity. After two, each year of animal life would equal 4 years of life.

Pop Quiz time! How old is a cat 6 years "really" use the system later? According to the LeBeau theory, the dog / cat would be the equivalent of one year of 40 seniors. Remember, 24 + (4 * 4) = 40. How about a dog of 10 years? If you came up with 56 and Good answer!

Interestingly, that dogs and cats go to this age range more recently at the same speed until they reach the age of 14. At that time the rates begin to differ between dogs and cats over the age of the terminology of rights. This table works well enough for a dog or cat with a life expectancy (ALE) 14. As we all know, the Animals often, as do people, may exceed the ALE which require a refinement of this age formula.

To do this, we must be aware of what is known as maximum lifespan (MLS). Basically, the average life expectancy is the number of years a person, animal, etc. may reasonably expect to live. The multilateral system, moreover, is the genetically based maximum age beyond which no member of May that the living species.

Now this in mind, consider this addendum to the children list. A human lifetime maximum is almost 110 years. A cats maximum life span is about half of the 30, while the dogs maximum life span is about 29.

So how do you calculate a cat or a dog's age who lives beyond the mark of 14? In this case, each year of life for 14 years for a dog would equal 2 1 / 2 years of man, and only 2 for a cat.

Thanks to recent research found that many times an animal may live past his beer when given improved care, activity, psychological and social stimulation. If we examine the oldest living dog in history, we can begin to see that most had an exercise program regular moderate includes different levels of psychological and social stimulation.

Currently, the oldest living dog on record worked as a pastor in Australia (29 years). The runner-up, only 27, was a laboratory that has lived in the house of a gamekeeper England. Other notable celebrities include Higgins, the terrier on Petticoat Junction and the Beverly Hillbillies (20) Pal, the dog who started the role of Lassie (18) and, last but not least, Rin Tin Tin, movie star and German Shepherd who lived at least 16 years.
