It is logical that secondhand smoke affects the health of our pets, our furry friends suffer a triple threat of snuff. Besides the obvious risk of cancer lung, dogs and cats lick the residual tar and nicotine in their cloaks, which can cause cancer of the mouth and throat. Curious animals also face the potentially fatal food poisoning nicotine in snuff products found.

A study by the Tuft University found that cats living in households with smokers are twice as likely as other cats to acquire cat lymphoma cancer. This cancer is thought to occur as a result of leukemia felina. In a Science journal report, Dr. Moore, Antonio Tuft, said: "The results of our study clearly indicate that exposure to environmental factors such as snuff smoke has devastating consequences for cats because it significantly increases the likelihood of contracting lymphoma. "

According to a report Associated Press, "In homes where they were exposed five years or more, cats had more than triple the risk. In a household of two smokers, the risk increased by a factor of four. "In some cases, cats were at greater risk of cancer than humans living in the same house.

Dogs who live with smokers show an increased risk of cancer of the lungs and nasal cavity. Long-nosed dogs such as nasal Retrievers have a larger surface area, which accumulates smoke carcinogen. The short-nosed breeds like Pugs, show a higher risk of lung cancer. This research was conducted at Colorado State University (CSU), College Veterinary Medicine by Dr. John Reif, who has studied the effects of secondhand smoke in dogs since 1992.

The symptoms of lung cancer in dogs include chronic cough, weight loss and fatigue. Symptoms of nasal cancer include swelling around the nose and sinus areas, nasal discharge and sneezing bloody.

The best solution is to keep the smoke from the environment of your pet and smoke free. Smokers who share their homes with pets should smoke outside and be very careful about the disposal of cigarette butts so that animals can not eat.

Ask someone to look after your pet in their habits smoking, and be sure to visit the day care centers or Petsitting Pet Care by awareness of snuff in mind.
